The first Democrat jumps up to replace Secretary of State Cathy Cox
Mar. 23, 2005 -
The AJC - Political Insider - Tom Baxter/Jim Galloway - Shyam Reddy, a Dublin lawyer, on Wednesday announced his '06 candidacy for secretary of state. The son of immigrants, Reddy calls himself a "new brand of Southern Democrat." We don't know much about him, but he's been active in the Red Clay Democrats and House Minority Leader DuBose Porter, also of Dublin, speaks well of him. A graduate of the University of Georgia law school, Reddy began his career as a corporate attorney in the Atlanta office of Kilpatrick Stockton.
He may be the only Indian-American in Georgia who can brag about owning a coonhound. At least one named Peaches.
Reddy's the second Democrat to announce for Cathy Cox's job. Former state senator Carol Jackson is interested, too.
