Reddy Promises Crackdown On Fraud Artists
Jun. 1, 2006 -
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution - A Democratic candidate for secretary of state pledged Thursday to use the office's power to aggressively pursue investment fraud artists.
Shyam Reddy, an Atlanta attorney, unveiled a four-part plan to combat fraud, including creating a "watchlist" of people and companies involved in fraudulent activities.
Reddy is also proposing an emergency hotline so people can report suspicious activity and check the legitimacy of investment opportunities.
Registering and regulating investment advisers, securities firms, charities and paid solicitors is among the duties of the Georgia secretary of state's office.
Reddy has raised the most campaign funds among six Democrats and four Republicans running for secretary of state.
