Reddy Promises Greater Oversight Of Nursing Homes
Jun. 6, 2006 -
The Atlanta Journal-Consitution - Democratic secretary of state candidate Shyam Reddy unveiled a plan Tuesday he said is aimed at cracking down on unscrupulous nursing home operators. The state Department of Human Resources regulates nursing homes in Georgia, but the Secretary of State's office licenses more than 1,000 nursing home administrators. Reddy, an Atlanta lawyer, is proposing to require more thorough background checks for license applicants, require more training for applicants and push to ensure adequate staffing in nursing homes. Reddy also said he wants to make certain key facts about licensed professionals more readily available online for consumers. Reddy is one of six Democratic and four Republican candidates seeking the statewide post.
