Candidate Touts 'Election Reform Plan'
Jun. 14, 2006 -
Democratic candidate for secretary of state Shyam Reddy unveiled on Wednesday a multi-faceted "election reform plan." If elected, the Atlanta lawyer wants to implement several policies to increase voter turnout and ballot security, and decrease voter intimidation and long lines at the polls. Among Reddy's ideas: Creating of a comprehensive elections Web site with information on candidates, expanding the early voting period, advocating more civics and government courses for students that he said leads to more voting, implement a voter-verified paper audit trail for the state's electronic voting machines. Reddy faces five opponents in the Democratic primary for secretary of state.
