Economic Development - Reddy leads the way on business growth and job creation

Oct. 24, 2005 - Atlanta – Shyam Reddy announced an innovative set of proposals designed to foster business growth and job creation in Georgia.

“I’m proud of and inspired by the entrepreneurial spirit of the people of Georgia,” said Reddy. “Hardworking Georgians deserve a government that rewards and encourages hard work by proactively helping individuals start their own businesses. We need greater investment in new Georgia-based enterprises, and my proposals will help ensure that. This comprehensive approach will create jobs and lead to wealth creation for all.”

Reddy’s comprehensive new proposals announced today include a two pronged strategy to encourage economic growth, business development and job creation.

E-Government Business Initiative. Reddy would implement a strategy to harness technology to empower small business owners and encourage investment in Georgia companies and their workforce. His proposals would make it easier to start a business by implementing next generation technology to permit electronic filing, online business formation and the viewing of a company’s corporate records and history online. This will make the process of starting and managing a small business more efficient and give business people in rural Georgia access to the same services that people in Atlanta have. This will also make it easier for potential investors to learn about and invest in Georgia businesses.

Tax Incentives and Investment in Georgia Companies. To promote increased investment in Georgia companies and their employees, Shyam will work with the legislature and the business and legal communities to advocate and support legislation that (i) offers tax incentives to individuals and entities that invest in Georgia companies and (ii) permits pension funds to invest a portion of their funds in Georgia private companies.

Reddy drafted these proposals drawing on his experience as a leading lawyer specializing in mergers, acquisitions and private equity. Having led two technology directives and having served as an advisor to large and small technology companies, Reddy has the practical and business/legal experience to advance e-government and implement next-generation technology for the benefit of Georgia’s small businesses and workers.

“Under Cathy Cox, the Secretary of State’s Office has begun the process of taking Georgia businesses into the next millennium. Our next Secretary of State must have the vision to take it even further. The Secretary of State needs to be proactive and work with the business, legal and legislative communities to make Georgia one of the best states for starting a business and making investments in Georgia companies” said Reddy. “It’s important that we have credible, experienced Georgians advocating business growth and private equity investment at all levels of government, especially in the Secretary of State’s Office, which oversees corporations and regulates securities.”
